Walking the Camino de Santiago, Visiting the Festivals or Simply Traveling Around Spain

Walking the Camino Francés Guide

Caminos of Europe

It is our aim to provide you with all the information you need to know about setting out to walk the Camino de Santiago or visiting any of the popular festivals of Spain. We also offer advice on other walks and places worth visiting whilst traveling in this beautiful country.

We will be covering many of the popular routes that make up the Camino de Santiago starting off with the most popular of these, the Camino Frances.

The Camino Frances (The most popular of all the routes), follows a path across Northern Spain running from the foothills of the French Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in north western Spain. A journey of almost 800k.

We have documented the route over 32 daily stages providing you with route information as well as accommodation in each town & village along the way. This is just a suggested itinerary and you should feel free to start the Camino where ever you prefer. Although to qualify for a Compostela you have to complete at least 100km if walking or 200km if you are on a bicycle.

It is also worth noting that each day you can walk as much or as little of the route as you feel comfortable with. Due to the numbers of pilgrims walking on the Camino you are permitted to stay in an albergue for one night only unless you are injured or in need of a rest.

We will also be covering the Via de la Plata, a spectacular 1000km walk which takes a route from Seville in the south coast of Spain to Santiago de Compostela in the north west corner of the country.

The Cuckoo & The Pilgrim

Written by our good friend Joseph 'José' Cullinane (That's him on the right on the website logo) The Cuckoo & The Pilgrim is a record of a walk along the Camino De Santiago in France and Spain and it could also be used as a rough guide by anyone wishing to follow this medieval pilgrim route.

It is also for the general reader who is interested in experiencing a countryside; the sights and sounds of nature; chance encounters on the road; ancient villages; anecdotes; bits of history and all that goes with following a pilgrim route at a medieval pace.

We will also be covering some of the smaller routes such as the Camino Portugues which follows a path from Porto in Portugal to Spain's Santiago de Compostela.

The information on the site will help you plan your walk providing you with everything you need to know about walking the Camino de Santiago such as how to get there, equipment required, where to stay etc.

The Feria Flamenco Festival, SevilleWe have gathered extensive information on some of the most popular festivals in Spain and strive to cover as many of these as possible. We will be adding this information shortly and will highlight the festivals which take place on or near any of the camino routes.

It is our aim to keep this site as current and up to date as possible. We have been walking these routes every year for over 6 years now and attended various festivals along the way and have gathered lots of information along the way.

However new albergues (hostels for specially for pilgrims) and regular hostels are springing up all the time so if you know of any that aren’t listed on the site or have any other information you feel may be relevant please email us or contact us so we can update the site for other pilgrims.

We hope you find all the information you require.

Buen Camino!
