The Three Kings
The Feast of the Epiphany marks the day when the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem and in Spain it is as still viewed by many as more important than Christmas.
It’s a great time for Spanish children for as well as receiving gifts at Christmas they also get presents from Los Reyes, the Kings.
As well as finding gifts in their own homes on the morning of the 6th The Kings are known to leave gifts in the homes of family relatives as well.
The biggest celebrations can be witnessed in Madrid where a huge street procession is held every year
In the evening of the 5th of January The Kings parade through Spanish streets, La Cabalgata, throwing sweets to the children.
During the festival everyone tucks into Rosco de Reyes, or Roscón, a large donut-shaped cake filled with cream and covered with sugar and cherries.
Be careful when eating the cake as sometimes a toy is buried inside. Whoever finds the toy gets one year of good luck, although they may also have to pay for the Roscón as well.
